Managing an Award

ORSP provides fiscal and managerial oversight for all externally funded projects. ORSP assists Project Directors (PD) or Principal Investigators (PI) in the administration and management of their awards.

The PD/PI is the individual who has final responsibility for seeing that the project is carried out as proposed. The PD/PI must comply with the terms, conditions and policies of both the sponsor and the University, including oversight of the budget, personnel review, time and effort reporting, and timely submission of all reports. Grant funds must be expended as approved by the funding agency; any changes to budgets must be approved by ORSP and Grant Accounting. All PD/PIs must comply with pertinent federal guidelines, such as Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars A-21 and A-110 and Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR). All pertinent federal guideline documents are on file in the ORSP office.

NOTE: All faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct research at Kean University must complete Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) education. No new award accounts will be established without documentation of RCR training completion for all principal investigators, co-investigators and senior personnel included within an NSF proposal/award. No payments will be approved for researchers or students on an NSF award until the RCR training is complete and certification provided to ORSP.
